Conservation - Stonemasons
The work is being carried out by Cathedral employees, some of
whom have been recruited to work exclusively on this project. There
are now 14 stonemasons working on the Cathedral under the
stewardship of Heather Newton, Head of Stonemasonry and Stone
Conservation.
Canterbury Cathedral is a partner in the Cathedral Crafts
Fellowship which was established to promote the sharing of skill
between the 9 participating Cathedrals and to continue training
apprentices in trades associated with these great buildings.
The Cathedral also operates an Apprentice scheme allowing skills to
be past to younger generations.
