Celebrate a Baroque Christmas at Canterbury Cathedral
On Saturday 13th December Canterbury Cathedral will celebrate Christmas with an evening of Baroque music at the annual and ever popular Save Canterbury Cathedral Christmas Concert.
The evening promises to be very enjoyable with the Cathedral perhaps at its most beautiful during Advent; the nativity scene and the Christmas Trees adding to the festive ambience. This year the concert features music from the 16th to the 20th Century with many popular and familiar classical Christmas pieces including: Corelli’s Christmas Concerto, Charpentier’s Midnight Mass for Christmas and Suite Antique written in 1979 by John Rutter, a very successful contemporary musician.
World-class musicians, comprising eight voices and twelve instrumentalists, will combine on the night to create what promises to be a magical evening. “Musici Durovernum", an instrumental group which includes members of the English National Opera and choral group “The Marian Consort” featuring members of internationally renowned choir “The Sixteen”, are performing.
The concert has been organised by Hancox brothers, Ben and Tom. Ben, a violinist, is most famous for co-founding the Sacconi String Quartet, the winner of numerous international awards. Tom, having left Simon Langton School for Boys in 2006 is already a most accomplished flautist. Tom now reads music at Oxford University and is in his second year.
All tickets for the evening are £10, and the performance will start at 7.30pm. Doors open at 6.45pm.
Tickets are available by calling 01227 464764, from the Appeal’s office at 27-28 Burgate, Canterbury CT1 2HA, or by email - fundraisingcampaign@canterbury-cathedral.org
