A Day in the Life of Canterbury Cathedral

23 September 2008

Cathedral Exhibition 1

Top photographer Jason Dodd gets to the heart of Canterbury Cathedral in a new exhibition designed to show daily life at the world famous building.

The exhibition, entitled 'A Day in the life of Canterbury Cathedral' has been a major undertaking for the Canterbury-based photographer, who spent a year compiling a wide range of images.

Mr Dodd said: “The pictures show everyone from the Dean and Canon to the mail man, gardeners and refuse collectors.

“My approach was direct and instant, most of the people were not aware that they were going to have their picture taken at the time so their poses are the real them.

“It has certainly been a journey and has most certainly stretched me as a photographer, but I'm really pleased with the results which focus on the subject and composition, you don't always need fancy backgrounds or various lighting effects.”

Dodd is producing a book based around his work at the Cathedral which goes on sale at the Open Evening. Each book costs £15.00 and includes all of the images featured in the exhibition. Poceeds from the book sales will go towards the Save Canterbury Cathedral Appeal. If you would like to order a copy you can download an order form here

The exhibition is on October 7 in the Nave for one night only, after which it will move into the Chapter House from October 28 to November 10. Entry to the Chapter House is free but normal precinct charges will apply.
